“My art is a deeply personal body of work. It has always been that way. I started making art as a way to express my feelings. And I never shared it. I didn’t share it because I didn’t want anybody to know what was going on. Nobody knew, not even my wife knew. This work is about my struggles and also about the way I perceive the world. I have a lot in here about my self-injury, about my mental illness, about my dysphoria, and just about the sadness that I’ve accumulated over the years. And it helps to be able to put it into these pictures and see it for what it is. Because I didn’t know it was just in me buried, poisoning everything. I had to dig it out and look at it and find out what the problem was. These pictures are almost like getting a cat scan for me to find this emotional tumor is that were that were making me sick.”
